For a Mini Break: Yo-Yo Ma Plays Bach in Restored Notre-Dame de Paris
Cello Suite No:1 in G Major, BWV 1007
Notre-Dame was built over nearly 200 years, from 1163 to 1345.
At its re-opening a couple of weeks ago, following the 2019 fire, Yo-Yo Ma played his Davidov Stradivarius cello, crafted in 1712 by Antonio Stradivari and named after the Russian cellist Karl Davidov, who owned it in the 19th century. Ma was born in Paris to Chinese parents and later moved to the US in his youth.
Johann Sebastian Bach composed the Six Cello Suites around 1720, just a few years after the Stradivarius was built.
